Ricerca nel tuo cuore la radice del male ed estirpala.
Essa genera frutti nel cuore del discepolo devoto come in quello dell’uomo di desiderio.
Solo i forti possono distruggerla.
I deboli devono aspettarne lo sviluppo, i frutti e la morte.
Ed è una pianta che vive e cresce attraverso le età.
Essa fiorisce quando l’uomo ha accumulato innumerevoli esistenze.
Colui che vuole incamminarsi sul sentiero del potere deve strapparla dal suo cuore.
Ed allora il cuore sanguinerà e l’intera vita dell’uomo sembrerà dissolversi totalmente.
Questa prova dev’essere affrontata; può presentarsi al primo gradino della scala pericolosa che conduce al sentiero della vita; può tardare forse fino all’ultimo, ma, o discepolo, rammenta che dev’essere superata e raccogli le energie della tua anima per tale compito.
Non vivere nel presente o nel futuro, ma nell’Eterno.
Quella malerba gigantesca non può là fiorirvi; questa macchia sull’esistenza è cancellata dall’atmosfera stessa del pensiero eterno.

Seek in the heart the source of evil and expunge it.
It lives fruitfully in the heart of the devoted disciple as well as in the heart of the man of desire.
Only the strong can kill it out. The weak must wait for its growth, its fruition, its death.
And it is a plant that lives and increases throughout the ages.
It flowers when the man has accumulated unto himself innumerable existences. He who will enter upon the path of power must tear this thing out of his heart.
And then the heart will bleed, and the whole life of the man seems to be utterly dissolved.
This ordeal must be endured; it may come at the first step of the perilous ladder which leads to the path of life; it may not come until the last.
But, O disciple, remember that it has to be endured, and fasten the energies of your soul upon the task. Live neither in the present nor the future, but in the Eternal.
This giant weed cannot flower there; this blot upon existence is wiped out by the very atmosphere of eternal thought.

Such in dem Herzen die Wurzel des Bösen und reiße sie aus.
Denn es treibt und es wuchert im Herzen des eifrigen Jüngers gleichwie in den Herzen der Kindern der Welt.
Nur der Starke vermag es zu töten. Der Schwache jedoch muß sein Wachstum erwarten, sein Reifen, sein Sterben.
Durch Weltenalter wächst dies Kraut im Menschen.
Es wuchert, doch in Blüte tritt es erst, wenn vieler Leben Unzahl er durchlaufen.
Wer der Beherrschung Weg betreten will, muß dieses Kraut aus seinem Herzen reißen. Wohl wird alsdann das Herzblut reichlich fließen, das ganze Leben wird vernichtet scheinen.
Die Prüfung aber muß bestanden werden. Vielleicht tritt sie an dich heran schon bei dem ersten Schritt des wagnisvollen Klimmens hinauf zum Lebensweg, vielleicht beim letzten. Bedenke wohl: Sie muß bestanden werden, – und setze alle Kräfte ans Vollbringen.
Nicht in dem Augenblicke darfst du leben, nicht in der Zukunft, – nur im Ewigen.
Dort kann dies Riesenunkraut nicht gedeihen: der Hauch schon eines Ewigkeitsgedankens tilgt diesen Flecken aus von deinem Dasein.
